VINTAGE PRINTS always capture my heart. I search out cards and books, fountain-penned ledgers, gorgeous old illustrations from Charles Dana Gibson, J.C.Leyendecker, Arthur Rackham, N.C. Wyeth and others. These designs are inspired by ephem-era.
IT'S FASCINATING to join conversations about design and where it reaches. We're a culture trained to see sophisticated imagery. So evolutions of design, and the skills of the designer, are layered and complex. Truly, one must be both an artist and a mechanic. Print design, which is what I do, has become specialized. Next to web design or wireless interfaces, it stands as the historical and essential basis for design, if only because of massive innovations made by print designers who changed the way we see in the last 60 years.(scroll down to see their links) FOR 20 YEARS I've done design / art direction for small shops and corporate giants, publishers and newspapers, toymakers, trade shows, movies and technologies. Here are projects from that experience.click art for large views.
